Melbourne – Lieutenant James Bennett monument

An impressive monument on St Kilda Boulevard in Melbourne stands as a lasting testament to the esteem with which the people of Victoria held Vickers Vimy mechanic Jim Bennett following the 1919 epic flight. The monument was funded following Jim’s tragic death in a test flight alongside Ross Smith in 1922, and unveiled on Anzac Day in 1927.
